Hope everyone had a great holiday season. I have made all kinds of New Year resolutions and one of them is to keep everyone updated on what is going on at Welbian Farm. We have finished breeding the does (hopefully) and of course bred far more than we had planned on. We did leave some of the older girls dry but then bred several doelings that we had not planned on breeding!!
This is such an exciting time of the year as we await the new kids to arrive. We are extremely pleased with this year's kid crop and can't wait to see some of them in milk. Also hopefully this year will be a better year with no broken necks so that we can get them off to a good start milking on a regular twice a day schedule.

Glen still has to take it easy with his neck but was able to slowly but surely get the barn cleaned out. The does were almost able to walk over the feeders!! It seems good to be able to catch up on things. We still have a way to go but the animals will be comfy and cozy.

I have slowly been working on the website and have the Goats for Sale section updated with the breedings we have done. Mike also did quite a bit of updating on our facebook page "Welbianfarmdairygoats". It looks great and he even updated pictures. I also have updated the Semen Sales page. Now that the holidays are over with I hope to have the website updated by the end of January. With all the breeds it is quite a consuming task!

November 8, 2011 Update

Well, breeding season is here and we are in full swing. Said we would only breed 35 but the numbers keep increasing!! Every time I go into the kid barn , I see these lovely big kids and just can't see keeping them dry another year!! We are so pleased with our Rendezvous and Mad Max daughters. Need to see a few of these young Toggs in milk.

We were able to get quite a few of our bucks collected. Fortunately we had our young Saanen buck collected as we lost him to urinary calculi a few weeks ago. First time in a long, long time that we have ever lost a buck to that. He was a handsome young fellow and we do have a few daughters from him. None the least it was a real lost for us.

We went to the convention in Michigan and had a great time and got to visit with Glen's family as he is from Michigan. We also brought home a new Oberhasli sire, Sir Echo Bricker's Ritz. Thank you Sandy Van Echo for sending him to us. We have bred him to our 2 Champion Oberhasli..Hot to Trot and Finesse. Thank you to Tecoa Seibert for our lovely little Oberhasli doeling.

This is the beginning of updating our website. This is going to be a major project as we have sold many of our animals and will be adding several new ones. Please be patient as I am going to go breed by breed. Hope to have it finished sometime in December.

September 2011 Update

Well another breeding season coming around. My parents use to say " the older you get , the faster time flies!" They certainly were right!! Can't believe we are in September already.

It has been a wild ride this year and hard decisions made. As most of you probably know by now, Glen fell down the stairs Jan. 31 and fractured his C2 vertebra. This resulted in a rigid neck brace for the next 4 months and very diligent restrictions on activity. Of course, we had 62 does bred and getting ready to kid!! Mike and I somehow managed to make all but 2 of the deliveries and all the kids were raised on a CAE prevention program. Needless to say this was quite consuming and the poor girls were lucky many times that they were milked at least once a day!

Our show season was very limited and we missed the National Show which was only 4 hours away!! We did manage to go down to watch the Togg and Oberhasli shows and enjoyed visiting with our friends from all over the country. What a great group of people.

We made some tough decisions in cutting back on animals this year . We will be revising our website in October with our breeding schedule. We will breed no more than 40 animals.

Alpines:

We probably will only be breeeding CH Waiilatpu Cherubim only if she can be AI'd. The other older does will be retired and we have sold the young milkers and will be keeping 1or 2 kids at most.

Lamanchas: We have 3 lovely Lamanchas and a Lynnhaven dry yearling that will get bred. We have decided to retire Little Rainbow French Pie. She will be 13 in the spring. We will be getting a new buck from Lynn Fleming and we are very excited about it.

Nubians: We have a token few left .

Oberhasli:

They took the hardest cut. Sold several and kept only what we felt were the best. Looking forward to see our dry yearlings in milk.
Toggenburgs:

Again some hard decisions and we lost 2 of our Little Creek does--only Sugarplum remains. We have several doe kids out of Rendezvous that we are excited about . We also have a new Junior Herdsire from Joan and Charlie Rowe . His info will be available as we update our website. We are happy with the young stock that is coming up and feel we are headed in the right direction.

Saanens: Our newest breed and must say I have come to like them very much. We have been very fortunate to have two beautiful bucks who have given us lovely animals. We finished our first home grown Saanen this year in the three shows we went to. We also have just added a few does from Hi-Land Farms in New Hamphire. Those who have been in Saanens for a long time will know Jean Hurlburt.

Now we have to sit down and continue to work on our breeding program .

We attended the 2010 National Show and were very pleased with the results of our showing. We were pleased that our Toggenburgs did so well as we have been working hard to maintain our breed standards. We made the cut with all the animals we took. Some of our top placings include:

News from Welbian Farm August 2010

A busy summer coming to an end.

I must say we were so proud of our old gal CH Welbian Farm's R Razzle Dazzle. She is a Whinchezter granddaughter and her mother and grandmother were both champions. She is 9 years old with 9 freshenings . We have not had her on our website as she is a Recorded Grade Experimental. I think she has now earned her place. We took her out of retirement this year as she was looking so good. She has attended 3 shows and has been Best of Breed at all three and Best Doe in Show at two of them !! What a lovely old gal. She has done her thing and will now be dried up and go back into retirement.

We attended four shows this year plus the National Show and finished 3 does and earned legs on several does:
Devonshire MF Finesse--4 yr old Oberhasli
Welbian Farm's Sweetie Pie--3 yr old Lamancha
Pindell's ASJ Tavoli--2 yr old first freshening Toggenburg

We were very saddened by the loss of a beautiful Oberhasli dry yearling that came to us from Sally and Dave Graybill. Owl-Ridge F Night Ashleigh. She placed 6th at Nationals this year and had 2 Best Junior Doe in Show wins! What a lovely little doe she was!!

We have sold out of kids for all the breeds . It has been an exceptional year for us. We still retain our Oberhasli buck Sparkling Acres Hot Shot as the buyers changed their mind. We have also brought back our Udderly Crazy Holy Roller buck from Conn. and are looking forward to an exciting breeding season with our Oberhasli.

We could not have expected more from our Spotlight Sale Toggenburg buck. We are anxiously waiting to see what his daughters look like in milk. We don't show a lot of kids but will be taken some to the Big E in October to see how they do .

We will start updating our website in October after the Big E Show in West Springfield, MA

We just returned from the Dutchess County Fair in Rhinebeck, NY . The girls are still there. Some of our animals are on lease to our dear friend Christel Scott for the rest of the summer . It certainly has been great only milking 8 does for a week. The girls will be coming home tomorrow so back to the old routine. We were very impressed with the friendliness of the folks there. What a great fair this is! Here are some of our placings.

We attended the Franklin County Fair in Malone, NY the beginning of August. It is a lovely agricultural fair in the north country.Some really nice folks there also. We were very pleased with our placings.

Update : What's Going On at Welbian Farm

It has been a very busy, hectic spring/summer here in Peru, NY.

Our best news is our newest grandson Michael Glen born to our son David and his wife Michelle. Of course, his brother Teddy (12) is thrilled to have a little brother of his own.
It is so great to have a new baby around again. Of course, Grandma and Grandpa think he is just beautiful !!!

Our three other younger grand kids will be arriving this week to stay for a week. Tyler (6) , Zach (5) ,and Kylie (5). Tyler and Zach live in Ottawa , Canada and Kylie lives in Florida. It should be quite a week! Of course our three older grand children are all grown up and on their own. How time does fly.

Our 10 year old truck finally gave out on us . We just drive and drive them . They become our good friends. We finally had to give in and Glen finally got his Diesel.

We really couldn't do much if we didn't have Michael here to take over when we go to shows, etc. He is such an asset to us as he loves to delve into pedigrees. He is already looking ahead to breeding season.

Now on to the goat news!

We are presently milking about 30 does. We have sold several as we were getting overwhelmed.

We have sold out of Alpine doe kids and bucks.

We have two Lamancha bucklings left. One out of Little Rainbow French Pie/ Yes Sir and a beautiful buckling out of Little Rainbow Singing Bird (LA 92 EEEE) and Yes-Sir

We made a very difficult decision to sell our Oberhasli buck Sparkling Acres Hot Shot. We have him in our tank and have used him quite a lot with wonderful results. He will be going to Vermont.

We are sold out of Oberhasli doelings and buck kids.

We have 1 remaining Toggenburg buck out of triplets by Rachel/Rendezvous .

We may consider selling our Sugarplum/Rendezvous buckling which we are thinking of keeping as it is our last tie to Little Creek Sage.

We have one Togg doeling for sale out of a first freshener priced very reasonably. Good 4-H project.

We purchased a lovely Toggenburg doeling and a Saanen doeling at Nationals.

We also purchased a Saanen buckling, Oberhasli buckling, and a Lamancha buckling at Nationals.

We will be going to the Big E in October and our last show will be in New Hampshire.

I guess that about does it for now.

We attended the Saratoga County Fair ADGA Show Sunday and had a wonderful time. We really enjoy going to the fair shows as we get to look around after the show . The folks were great and the show day was beautiful. Not too hot with a lovely breeze. As usual, Christel Scott
( soon to be Clum!) showed for us and did her usual outstanding job !

Our Toggenburg 2 year old first freshener (Pindell's ASJ Tivoli, Spotlight Sale Consignment) went Grand Champion in both rings her first time out!

Owl-Ridge F Nights Ashleigh, our dry yearling Oberhasli , went Best Junior Doe in show in both rings.

We thank the Pindells and Graybills for such lovely animals.

National Show

We brought 15 animals to the National Show in Kentucky. It was a hectic week as we showed several breeds.
